Campopisano

This is “Campopisano”, a very particular place in Genoa, Italy. Formerly it was very near to the sea and in 1284 a.C. over nine thousand prisoners were taken from Pisa Republic to Genoa and they were stored there in extreme poverty. The prisoners died quickly and they were buried in the same place. In the next centuries Campopisano was transformed from a cemetery into one of the most beautiful place in Genoa. In 1992 the floor was decorated with cobblestone, and the local artist Armando Porta made a mosaic representing an old Genoese vessel.
